Jerry Pate Design to Restore Legendary Teeth of the Dog Dominican Republic Golf Course
We are thrilled to announce that Casa de Campo is set to restore the iconic Teeth of the Dog golf course. Starting in January 2025, this restoration will breathe new life into the Pete Dye-designed masterpiece, renowned as one of the best Caribbean golf courses. Editor Jason Lusk recently detailed the upcoming restoration by Jerry Pate Design for Golfweek.
Teeth of the Dog, named after the sharp rocks along the shore, has been a golfer’s paradise since its inception in 1971. With seven dramatic holes playing “close enough to the ocean to get your socks wet,” according to Lusk, this course is a testament to Dye’s genius.
The restoration will be led by Jerry Pate Design, owned by the winner of the 1976 U.S. Open and the 1982 Players Championship. Pate’s team plans to re-grass all tees, fairways, and greens with Dynasty Paspalum, perfect for wind-blown, seaside courses. The fairways will be sand-capped to a depth of three inches, producing firm and bouncy turf ideal for play.
Additionally, the restoration will expand greens back to their original sizes with some slight recontouring. Reshaping and expanding greenside bunkers will also create a sharper, more dramatic look. The renovation also includes an upgrade of the cart paths.
